ACBA Member Awards

The Collegiality Award was established by the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association seeking to recognize a past/present member from Allen County, Ohio Bar Association whose trustworthiness, respectful and courteous treatment of all people, enthusiasm for intellectual achievement and commitment to excellence in work, and service to the profession and community inspires others.

This Award is to be presented intermittently at the Annual Christmas Party.

  • A past or present member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who through his/her accomplishments serves/served as an example by inspiring other to renew their commitments to professionalisms, integrity, intellectual achievement, civility, and service in the practice of law;
  • A past or present member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who possess/possessed personal integrity;
  • A past or present member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who pursues/pursued excellence in legal work, respects judicial officers, other lawyers, and members of the public;
  • A past or present member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who provides/provided pro bono services to those in need of such services or volunteers in their community through civic, charitable, or religious organizations;
  • A past or present member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who provides/provided service to the profession locally, in the State, and/or Nation, including but not limited to, work performed through professional organizations such as the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and/or National Bar Associations.
  • A past or present member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who is/was active in in the AllenvCounty, Ohio Bar Association, including lawyers in private practice, Judges, Magistrates, corporate counsel, staff attorneys, and/or academics.
  • A past or present member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who is/was a member in good standing of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association and is/was licensed to practice in the State of Ohio.

Background Information & Nominee Data Form with Certification of Eligibility: Please attach a current resume or similar summary for the Nominee, including information about the Nominee’s immediate family. In addition, please submit the Nominee Data form, attached hereto, together with a completed Certification of Eligibility of the Nominee.

Narrative: Describe the Nominee’s integrity, enthusiasm for intellectual achievement, commitment to civility, pursuit of excellence, and service as exhibited listed as criteria for the Award. Please include specific examples of the Nominee’s trustworthiness, his/her respectful and courteous treatment of all people, his/her enthusiasm for intellectual achievement and commitment to excellence in work and her/her service to the profession, and the community. Include any supporting data such as news articles, publications and other documentation. However, focus should be on the intellectual and professional characteristics of the Nominee, as well as his/her interests that can be fairly characterized as “collegiate,” which inspires others in the community or state and not on whether the Nominee has received other recognition. The written narrative, exclusive of the supporting data, should be no longer than three (3) pages.

Letters of Support: Letters of support from individuals or organizations that explain the manner in which the Nominee meets the criteria specified are welcomed. Please include no more than five (5) such letters.

Renewal of Nomination: Nominations not selected will be considered for the next year if renewed by the Nominator; Nominations not renewed shall be deemed expired and automatically withdrawn. Nominations may be renewed for a maximum of two (2) consecutive years following the year of the initial submission. Nominations automatically expire six (6) years after initial submission, if not selected. To renew a Nomination, submission of an updated Nominee Data Form with updated Certification of Eligibility, by the deadline is required. All other supporting documentation does need to be resubmitted to the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association, Fellowship Committee Chairperson.

Withdrawal of Nomination by Professionalism Committee: The Executive Committee reserves the right to withdraw any Nomination from consideration at any time upon determination that a Nominee does not meet the criteria for eligibility.

In 2019, the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association will be honoring those Members who have been in practice for twenty-five (25+) years or more by awarding them with a certificate to commemorate their dedication to the practice of law. A new committee will be formed to determine the recipients for this inaugural award.

The “On the Rise” Award seeks to recognize an active attorney member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association, and who has been identified as a “rising star” in Allen County, Ohio through his/her high achievement, innovations, vision, and leadership both in the legal profession and through their service to their community.

This Award will be presented intermittently at the Annual Christmas Party.

  • A member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who is admitted to practice for fifteen years or less (>15);
  • A member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who possesses personal integrity;
  • A member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who exemplifies a broad range of high achievement, innovations, vision, and leadership in both the legal profession and through their service to their community.
  • A member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who is currently active in in the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association, including lawyers in private practice, Judges, Magistrates, corporate counsel, staff attorneys, and/or academics.
  • A member of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association who is a member in good standing of the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association and licensed to practice in the State of Ohio.

Non-Member Awards

Each year, the Allen County, Ohio Bar Association honors a recipient with the Liberty Bell Award as part of its Annual Law Day Celebration.  The recipient is chosen by the Law Day Committee in April.

  • Promoting a better understanding of the rule of law,
  • Encouraging a greater respect for law and the courts,
  • Stimulating a sense of civic responsibility, and
  • Contributing to good government in the community.

The Allen County Bar Association annually awards two (2) one thousand dollar ($1,000.00) scholarships. The winning essays are chosen by the Scholarship Committee after careful review. Those Scholarship Essay Winners are chosen in April and presented a certificate at the Annual Law Day Celebration in May.
